About Better Posture Perth
Better Posture Perth is a division of The Physio Nook, a physiotherapy, massage and rehabilitation company that has been servicing metropolitan Perth since 2003. The Physio Nook is owned and operated by husband and wife team Paul and Tracy Woodward, who between them have over 50 years experience in diagnosing and treating all manner of musculoskeletal injuries.
Poor posture is all too often a major contributor to the injuries and conditions that we as physiotherapists have to treat.
In 2016, Paul saw the need for a more specialised posture service for his clients. He completed the NPI Certified Posture Specialist course, researched the best possible methods of accurately assessing posture (see our page on Posture Analysis) and developed postural correction programs ranging from simple home exercises to more involved combinations of stretching, strengthening, physiotherapy techniques and equipment to optimise his clients' posture and function. This service is now based at the Doubleview clinic of The Physio Nook.

Paul believes good posture is more than standing up straight, and requires more than “keeping your shoulders back.” Posture is dynamic, it's about how your body balances, how flexible and strong you are, and most importantly how your body moves.
Though there is no one "perfect posture", there are better and worse postures. It’s not just how you stand, it’s also how you align and balance your body when you sit, walk and move.
Unfortunately, for many sitting is the 21st century posture. Our technology driven work and recreational habits are a primary contributor to neck, shoulder and back pain, amongst others. Poor or weak posture has also been proven to affect our internal organs, including our breathing capacity.
The human body is designed to move, not sit in a folded, cramped position for hours. Indeed, one of Paul's favourite sayings is that "your best posture is your next posture", which basically means keep moving and changing positions. Unused muscles waste away and get weaker, over time this weakens our bodies and makes it even harder to maintain good alignment against gravity.
If you spend a large part of your life sitting, you must actively do something to counteract your habits, or your posture and your overall health will suffer.
